Limassol, the second largest city in Cyprus, is situated between the two ancient cities of Amathus and Kourion. The tourist strip today runs all the way along the east coast as far as Amathus, so it terms of a holiday destination Limassol really has got a lot to offer.

Set against the stunning Troodos mountains, while visiting Limassol it is a good idea to take a tour of one of the many wineries and to sample the produce. Being situated at the foot of the mountains, the fertile soil around Limassol offers the ideal conditions for growing grapes, making Cypriot wine among the best in the world. The best time to visit is during September when the annual festival is held and the wine flows freely for all to enjoy for 10 days.

Beaches and boats

The east of Limassol offers some of the best beaches in Cyprus, with some even having facilities such as changing rooms and showers. Because of this, during the summer months the beaches of east Limassol can get quite crowded, so if you prefer a quieter beach atmosphere then try the outskirts of town for more sandy beaches that are generally less crowded.

And for those who enjoy water sports and sailing, Limassol has a beautiful marina which is fully equipped.
